Main Applications

Formic acid is a basic bulk chemical with a wide range of uses:

· Leather industry – tanning, deliming, unhairing, and neutralising lime.
· Rubber industry – coagulant for natural rubber and antioxidant for rubber products.
· Textile and dyeing – pH regulator and reducing agent; can replace sulfuric acid with less fibre damage.
· Agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals – intermediate for triazole pesticides, caffeine, vitamin B₁, etc.
· Feed additives – preservative for silage, inhibits mould growth.
· Chemical synthesis – production of formates, formate esters, formamide, and other derivatives.
· Metal surface treatment – pickling and cleaning agent; chloride‑free, suitable for stainless steel equipment.

Packaging & Storage

Packaging options:

25 kg plastic drums, 35 kg drums, 250 kg polyethylene drums, 1200 kg IBC totes – customised upon request.

Storage:
Keep in a cool, well‑ventilated warehouse with temperature below 30°C. Store away from ignition sources, heat, oxidising agents, and alkalis. Keep containers tightly sealed. Do not store together with ammonia, sulfuric acid, or nitric acid.

Safety & Compliance

· Corrosive liquid; causes severe skin burns and eye damage.
· Wear chemical‑resistant gloves, goggles, and protective clothing during handling.
· In case of spillage, neutralise with lime powder or sodium carbonate.
· Fire extinguishing media: water spray, alcohol‑resistant foam, dry powder, or CO₂.
· COA, MSDS, and other documentation available upon request.

FAQ

Q: What is the UN number and shipping classification?

A:  It depends on concentration. For 85% and above aqueous solutions, UN 1779 (Formic Acid, Class 8, PG II). For lower concentrations, UN 3412 may apply. Always check the specific SDS and local regulations before shipment.

Q: How should formic acid be stored, and what is its shelf life?

A: Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from oxidisers, alkalis, and strong acids. Keep containers tightly sealed. Under proper conditions, shelf life is 12–18 months. Over time, slight decomposition may occur, so re‑test purity before use if stored long‑term.
