Butyl butyrate is a colorless, transparent liquid with a soft, ripe, and sweet fruity aroma (reminiscent of pineapple, apricot, or creamy banana peel). Among common butyrate esters, it has the highest carbon count, the slowest volatility, and the longest-lasting scent. It is miscible with ethanol, diethyl ether, acetone, ethyl acetate, hydrocarbons, and oils; it effectively dissolves nitrocellulose, acrylic resins, and vinyl resins. It is stable under light and heat but should be kept away from strong acids and strong bases.

Solvent: For high-boiling-point coatings, inks, and adhesives; provides excellent leveling, resists blushing, and is suitable for baking-cure systems.
