SAN resin

AMSAN 3610 is a white to off-white free-flowing powder. It typically contains 55%–70% rubber phase and 26%–28% acrylonitrile content. It is primarily used for compounding ASA pellets, modifying outdoor PVC products, and producing engineering plastic alloys.

Basic positioning

Material Category: SAN resin (not ABS, no butadiene rubber phase, therefore hard, brittle, and transparent)
Form: Natural or transparent granules

Typical physical properties and performance orientation

Density: Approx. 1.07–1.08 g/cm³
Light transmittance: High (better than HIPS, worse than GPPS), suitable for transparent parts
Stiffness/Strength: Higher than GPPS, better resistance to stress cracking than PS
Heat resistance: Heat distortion temperature approx. 85–100℃ (10–20℃ higher than PS)
Chemical resistance: Better than PS in oil and non-polar solvent resistance; not resistant to strong alkalis, ketones, and aromatics
Disadvantages: Low notched impact resistance (brittle), no rubber toughening

Main uses

SAN/AMSAN 3610 grade is commonly used in:
Transparent everyday items (toothbrush handles, cosmetic cases, stationery, hanger buttons)
Small transparent parts for home appliances (knobs, switch covers, instrument panels)
Food contact containers (when food-grade certification is required)
Blending modified substrates (mixed with ABS, PC, etc. to adjust gloss/cost)
Some GPPS replacement applications (when higher hardness, oil resistance, and stress crack resistance are required)
